A very interesting piece in The Guardian from Profiles4Care client Melanie Weatherley, chief executive of Walnut Care. Melanie wisely points out that the introduction of the minimum wage could provide “a chance to attract a wider cohort of potential recruits”. We couldn’t agree more. From a values based recruitment perspective, many people who excel in sectors such as hospitality and retail have the right values to do well in social care, they just hadn’t thought about it as an option.
Transferable skills don’t have to be in the form of written qualifications, especially when the importance of the right personal values can never be over emphasised in the heath and social care sector. Hopefully Melanie’s prediction will come true and ease some of the strain recruiters are currently facing.
